"Don't believe the hysteria, this transfer is beautiful!"
5 stars"
Purchased on Mighty Ape

If you're considering buying this set, you probably know and love these films. If you haven't seen the extended editions, all you need to know is that almost every additional scene adds to the depth of the story and the development of the characters – they are they only versions to watch.

Prior to getting this set I was concerned about reports that the aspect ratio was wrong for the region B version, and that The Fellowship, with its new transfer, had a major colour problem (excessive green tint).

These reports are NOT TRUE! The aspect ratio listed on many sites is incorrect (it is 2.40:1). The snow is white, the sky is blue, Frodo waking in Rivendell is a fade to white and all of the colour changes I have noticed have been a major improvements. The YouTube clips and screen shots all over the intenet are way off.

It all looks and sounds stunning – better than any other Blu Ray in my collection!

If you love these movies, buy this set.

"Brilliance in 2.40:1 Aspect radio"

Purchased on Mighty Ape

Been waiting for this edition for a long time. Just received my copy and it will be playing tonight. I prepared myself by again reading the wonderful book which I just finished again. So all is go for one of the best stories of all time now in HighDef BlueRay. And in responce to Johns review this Box set is the same all over the world juts the region coding is different. The New Zealand (UK Aussie) editon is 2.40:1 just as the USA edition. More research would have told you this ( I know this is not what the website said but more the Ape is allowed errors)

"The time has come.."

To pre order now! Any true LOTR fan would of known the extended editions have been in the making for ages and are long over due for release. I have ordered mine. A estimated price would be good but all in due time I guess.

"Addictive To The Max."
5 stars"

The Lord of the Rings Trilogy is probably one of the best directed films ever. It is not my favorite film series, but it certainly is a full star rating (easy 10/10). LOTR is perfect all-round , it has a brilliant plot which is regularly active (there are no dull moments in all the 3 films). The soundtrack is brilliant, a perfect score for a perfect film. This is a definite must-buy for those who do not have it in BluRay.

"Well worth the price"
5 stars"

Although it might seem a bit pricey to begin with, it actual works out to be cheaper than expected. Each disc would be worth roughly 10 dollars each, 10 × 15 = 150 – mightyapes aweomse prices = 139.99. It's a good deal, well worth the price.

However if you don't have a blu ray you can always be the DVD edition which is equally good.

"Not the right Aspect ratio."
1 stars"

I note that in New Zealand, and in the UK, the aspect ratio of the shows in this set is 1.78:1 which is a cropped version of the original. Back to the days of VHS for NZ and Pommy land I see. The set with the same content and in Blu Ray that is avaialable in the USA is in fact the same as the cinema which is 2.35:1 or in old terms,. Panavision or Cinemascope. Consequently when I finally buy a Blu Ray Zone or region Free player, (they are avaialble in NZ) I will buy the set from the USA and not from any NZ firm who seem to be satisfied with hacked (read Cropped) versions of films)

"My patience paid off"
5 stars"

I read on a forum a few years ago when blu-ray was still new that this was the set to wait for. Most people said they'd just boycott the original release, because they would just end up forking out for this when it finally arrives. I'm glad the wait is (almost) over, and I had the discipline to not buy the original. Can't hardly wait.

Amazing quality image with even more extra footage than the dvd version released a year ago. Amazing story. You need a lot of time to watch these masterpieces

"Wow..."

This is what I have been waiting for! Really looking forward to getting this set to add to ‘my precious’ collection of LOTR stuff!
