Description

What's a little girl to do when late in the night she is taunted by the sounds of something stirring in the locked upstairs bedroom? How did it get to the top of the stairs and begin to descend with a heavy kathump, kathump, kathump? She trembled in fear as her efforts to wake her exhausted mother seemed fruitless.

Author Biography:

Though LaVone Hicks has taught music in North Carolina for over thirty-four years, this suspenseful book was inspired by her students at Carver Elementary, in Mt. Olive NC, who insisted she tell the true story every year since she began telling it in 2003. Having written her first book as a financial self-help one, "Who Wants To Be A Millionaire-Life Lessons Learned" in 2014, she felt obligated to oblige them and write the children's book as a legacy to her students, her grandchildren, her sister, Patricia C. Ford, and her late mother, Jessie Bell Coley. The book is laced throughout with little trinkets of the lifestyle she had growing up in the small rural town of Fremont, NC.
