Description

Test the limits of human endurance... Frank Delaney's two young children witness their mother's horrific suicide. Trauma haunts them; they soak their sheets in sweat and cry out for their mom. How can they possibly live without her? Marie's husband repeatedly rapes and beats her. She and her young children escape to a small town far away from their tormenter. There, she meets Frank and falls in love with him. Can they bring their children together as a family? Frank is a USAF forward air controller who goes to war--not once, but twice. Daily, he flies low and slow to find and destroy the enemy. The thought of a mortal hit from an enemy gun below preys on his mind. Will he live to be with his wife and children again? Marie writes her definition of courage; she carries on because she must. Fear gnaws at her with every breath and worry crowds her mind. Will she see her husband again? A generation of Lao soldiers is lost in a decade of battle. Young boys and old men must now carry war's heavy burden. All save the lives of countless American soldiers. How can this be possible?

Author Biography:

John Bingham is my author's pseudonym for "Winter Roses." I also chose to use pseudonyms throughout the book, to help protect those whose psyches were scarred badly by events that were beyond their control. Writing the book was an intensely personal effort: Marie was my wife Ann's big sister and Frank was my best buddy. Frank and his brothers-in-arms are true war heroes; their bravery in nonstop daily combat borders on disbelief. Yet Marie, along with all of the spouses left behind behind by war, is also brave beyond belief. Living every day while wondering if their husband will die that day requires unspeakable courage. Their children are equally brave. They know very well that their daddy is in danger. Who is the bravest of the brave? The reader can judge, but I cannot. I knew and loved them all.
