Kai is just hours old when he takes his first breath in the warm waters of Tonga. As a newborn humpback whale, he has everything to learn: how to swim, how to sing, and most importantly, how to survive the greatest journey of his life-a 3,000-mile migration from tropical nursery waters to the feeding grounds of Alaska.

But Kai’s ocean is changing.

As he travels north with his mother and pod, Kai discovers a world of breathtaking beauty and heartbreaking challenges. He explores coral reefs where some sections glow with life while others have fallen silent. He meets Zephyr, a brave clownfish who teaches him that even the smallest creatures have important roles to play. He navigates through seas of plastic debris and helps rescue Honu, a sea turtle tangled in fishing line. He learns from Kailani, an ancient turtle who has witnessed a century of ocean transformation and shares hard-won wisdom about resilience and hope.

In the rich feeding grounds of Alaska, Kai experiences the ocean’s abundance-and hears something that will change his understanding forever: humans singing to whales. Not all humans bring harm. Some are working to heal what’s been damaged. Some are planting coral, cleaning beaches, and teaching their children to love the ocean.

Kai realizes he has a choice: despair over the challenges, or become a “bridge builder”-connecting past wisdom with future action, carrying songs of hope across the ocean.
