Dunsany was also notable for being the chess champion and pistol-shooting champion of Ireland. Many of his short story collections as well as his novel, The King of Elfand’s Daughter, are still widely read today. Don Rodriguez; Chronicles of Shadow Valley, published in 1922, is a fantasy novel that is set in the mythical golden age of Spain.
