Sandy’s mother owns a bakery and their best selling item is hamantaschen. Zoe’s mother owns a deli and they run out of latkes each day.
One day Sandy and Zoe get into a spirited discussion about which is better: hamantaschen or latkes. Neither one of them budges in their opinion so they come up with a creative idea. They make posters and decorations and bake and fry up a storm. They set up a table in the park so their neighbors can vote on which is their favorite.
Kerry Olitzky has penned an entertaining version of “The Great Debate” between hamantaschen and latkes that started in 1946 at the University of Chicago, brought to life with illustrations by Ruby Silberman. Baking and frying have never been more fun as Sandy and Zoe whip up these holiday favorites.
