Immigrant in the City

This inaugural LGMW Anthology opens with the story “Hungarian Dance No. 11” by Katarina Kolozhvari – the winning entry of the LGMW 4th Writing Competition, held in 2024 and titled, fittingly, “Immigrant in the City.” The story spans from Budapest, Hungary, to Adliswil and Zurich in Switzerland, offering a strong sense of place. Today, millions of people are on the move – displaced by war, dispossession, or political persecution – while many others migrate in search of a better life. How do we change when we move? What do the places and people we lose or encounter add to our understanding of who we are? What can the experience of (im)migration tell us about being human in the 21st century? These and other questions are explored by the talented authors in this collection. Here, you will find short stories, essays, and novel excerpts that explore various aspects of life in immigration.
