Hank Cooper is a dead man walking.
In Dallas, James Brackington rules. Rules, as in does the occasional murder, the more occasional bit of coercion and, on weekends, runs the largest crime syndicate in the southern United States. Hank cleans up the messes Brackington leaves behind and spends his day eating peanuts at the Texas Inn – washing them down with vodka and Hillsborough cigarettes, of course.
But when Brackington’s operation concerning a vital and mysterious bit of contraband goes awry, his uneasy partnership with Hank is thrown into sideways chaos. Hank and his unlikely group of comrades at Smiley’s Funeral Home are thrust into a world of absurdism and uncanny violence, wherein they must retrieve the key to Brackington’s demise before they meet their own.
