Lô first gained prominence in the 1990s and has since become one of Senegal’s most influential artists. His music often reflects themes of African unity, peace, and social justice. Cheikh Lô’s sound is sometimes described as a fusion of mbalax, a traditional Senegalese rhythm, with other global musical influences, which has made him a favorite both within Senegal and internationally.
