Margaret Nuttall’s autobiography spans over 80 years. Born just before the outbreak of World War II, and the youngest of six children, she grew up in Rochdale, Lancashire.
Her story begins with her early recollections of wartime, with blackouts, rationing and an air-raid shelter full of frogs. She recounts anecdotes from her home life, school days, youthful social life and working life, having started work at the age of fifteen. Margaret married her first husband, Leonard, in 1959 and they had two daughters, Carolyn and Tracy.
A skilled typist, Margaret gained a job at the motorway police post in Heywood, which marked a turning point in her life. She met Tony Nuttall, a police chief inspector, who was to become her second husband. The couple share a passion for foreign travel, and Margaret gives a colourful account of their many holidays, including trips to Thailand, Bermuda and a recent world cruise.
The book concludes in lockdown during the current coronavirus pandemic, with Margaret enjoying her garden. Margaret has travelled the world, but will always be a Lancashire lass.
