Author Biography
Dr. Joshua “Gensetsu” Smith holds a PhD in Cultural Sociology from Osaka University, Japan, where he studied traditional Japanese aesthetics and Zen Buddhist practices. He is a certified flow state coach through Steven Kotler’s Flow Research Collective and has spent years integrating ancient Japanese wisdom with modern neuroscience research. As the founder of Shizen Style and the High Flow Lifestyle community, Dr. Smith has coached hundreds of creatives in developing sustainable creative practices. He is also a practitioner of traditional Japanese arts including shakuhachi (bamboo flute), iaido (sword meditation), and Japanese garden design. His photography work can be found at gen-setsu.com, where he captures the natural beauty that inspires his teaching. Dr. Smith lives with his family, integrating the seasonal rhythms and natural awareness principles he teaches into daily creative practice.
