Shot, Survived, Stronger

A moment so violent, so sudden, that it split my life in two-before and after. The bullet tore through my leg. The pain was immediate, sharp, and disorienting. But it wasn’t just the physical agony-it was the shock. The disbelief. The realization that safety, once assumed, had vanished in an instant. I was severely wounded. My leg was mangled. My body collapsed. And in that moment, I wasn’t a professional. I wasn’t a leader. I was a man bleeding in the dirt, vulnerable and exposed. What followed was a blur of emergency care, surgeries, and skin grafts. The cast they placed on my leg felt less like protection and more like a prison-heavy, restrictive, suffocating. I couldn’t move freely. I couldn’t sleep comfortably. I couldn’t escape the reality that my body had been permanently altered. But the worst part wasn’t the cast. It was the reveal. The moment it came off. The moment I saw what was left. My leg-once strong, once familiar-was now foreign. Scarred. Misshapen. A visual reminder of violence. I talk about the impact of Physical trauma, Psychological trauma and Cosmetic trauma and how I overcame each the latter being the hardest to overcome until after more than 2 decades.
