The Indian American Tech Success Story

The success of Indians in Silicon Valley and other Tech centers in the US is well known. Asian immigrants including Indians make up more than a third of the engineering workforce in the US. What is not as well-known is the fact that Indians dominate when it comes to starting Tech companies. According to a study conducted at Duke University, Indians have founded more engineering and technology companies in the US in the previous decade than immigrants from the U.K., China, Taiwan and Japan combined. Of all immigrant-founded companies, 26% have Indian founders.

In this book, serial entrepreneur and author Shirish Nadkarni explores the reasons why Indians have been so successful in the tech field. These reasons include a high proficiency in English, a strong educational foundation, advanced degrees in the US, a propensity to take risks as immigrants and strong social and professional networks.
