When God Speaks, We Say, "Something Said"

Born in the deltas of the deep south to sharecropper parents, the author’s life was often marred with misunderstanding, isolation, and rejection from her childhood onto adulthood whether calculated or unintended by family, friends, employers, coworkers, teachers, etc. These attitudes, regardless of intents, often led to physical, mental, and emotional harm, even taking her to the brink of death more than once. The catastrophic potentials of these behaviors were thwarted when a still, small voice of an unseen “something” or “someone” speaking up and saying “something” to her.

These warnings were sometimes very stern, averting serious outcomes to include the death of her husband from a heart attack, her having cancer twice, and a potential house fire that could have taken the life of eight of her immediate family. That “something” woke her from a deep sleep and asked her very sternly, “What’s that smell?” Her response to that question saved her whole family from perishing in a near-blazing inferno.
