3, 2, 1, 2000 is the new album from Aucklander Roy Irwin & his first since signing to local label MUZAI Records.
After a self-admitted “failed” attempt at relocating to Melbourne & a large amount of soul-searching with his last album, 3, 2, 1, 2000 is a startling showcase of Irwin’s singular style of slacker pop. Not only a representation of Irwin’s take on playing “in a band” (having recorded all the instruments bar one himself, in his house), the album dwells on 3 particular subjects: teenage misadventure; his love life – akin to watching a bad comedy, apparently; & the difficulty of letting go of a certain time, place, person & the accompanying memories. Written & recorded between January & April this year (unashamedly!) through the GarageBand program & with “basic shit – a couple of guitars, a bucket & some wooden spoons”, Irwin’s 2nd album draws upon influences such as Jay Reatard & Darcy Clay, both of whom Irwin listened to constantly while recording. There are also elements of Evan Dando, Smudge & Dinosaur Jr in terms of Irwin’s overall influence. With every song recorded the same day it was written, 3, 2, 1, 2000 is a snapshot of just how prolific Roy Irwin has been – and now with a label backing him, how magnanimous he is set to become. We are committed to protecting your rights under the Consumer Guarantees Act and working with our suppliers to assist with warranty claims.
