This book, and the major survey exhibition it accompanies, bring together leading New Zealand artist Andrew Drummond’s most significant works from the past three decades. Featuring photographs of the artist’s performances and spectacular images of the exhibition at Christchurch Art Gallery, Observation / Action / Reflection is a stunning book designed by award-winning designer Neil Pardington. The essays by Jennifer Hay, Bruce Barber, Peter Leech and Pamela Hansford, as well as an interview with John Finlay and short texts by Christchurch Art Gallery director Jenny Harper and senior curator Justin Paton, provide informative, accessible insights into Drummond’s “aesthetic language”, and are accompanied by an extensive chronology. Observation / Action / Reflection has been funded by the Friends of Christchurch Art Gallery and Creative New Zealand.
