A university scholarship and winning skills at cricket and Australian Rules football gave Den Murcott a terrific start in life. With a career first in accounting and then in IT, he was well on the way to fulfilling the middle class dream. A wife, Ali, and two charming daughters, plus a Mercedes, completed the picture.

But in his mid-forties, something went wrong. Den’s lens got distorted. He wanted something more creative out of life. Perhaps Whelan the Wrecker, an alter ego who popped out of the beer bottle with fearsome regularity, had something to do with it.

Hugely entertaining, Den’s multidirectional lens focuses on the irritating tricks and devices of modern life, shedding light on travel, friendships, corporate madness and women who leave bedrooms for workrooms.
