Gene Pitney & Neil Sedaka, complete with original artwork, liner notes and personnel details. “Gene Pitney: The Many Sides Of Gene Pitney”; “Gene Pitney: Only Love Can Break A Heart” & “Neil Sedaka: Rock With Sedaka” and “Neil Sedaka: Sings His Greatest Hits” plus seven bonus tracks.
Here we feature two pop giants in every sense of the word. Both artists were not only singers, but prolific writers and musicians, producers and engineers. Broadly speaking Gene came out of the cooler Phil Spector wing of sixties pop hits, having written the classic “He’s A Rebel” for The Crystals and hung out with the Rolling Stones and as legend has it played piano on their debut album including the classic Stones rocker “Little By Little”. Jagger / Richards were also responsible for Gene’s 1964 hit “That Girl Belongs To Yesterday” which became their first self penned US / UK hit. Other classic hits Gene wrote included “Rubber Ball” by Bobby Vee and “Hello Mary Lou” by Ricky Nelson.
Neil Sedaka, as most people will know came out of the famed Brill Building school of pop songwriting where alongside the likes of Carole King, Gerry Goffin, Ellie Greenwich and Jeff Barry these young dynamic songwriters would quite literally turn out one pop masterpiece after the other. Happily you will find all of Neil’s classic hits on our second selection from the great man “Sings His Greatest Hits”. Even more happily we can report that Neil is still going strong at 86 years of age. As with all AVID releases, we hope you enjoy this classic set and check out our extensive catalogue for more great music across Pop, Easy Listening, Rock n Roll, Jazz, and many other musical genres.
