Author Biography
Dr. Ellen Anderson Penno is an ophthalmologist who has been doing laser vision correction surgeries since 1996. She trained at the University of Minnesota’s medical school and did her ophthalmology residency at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. She also has a master’s degree in Clinical Laboratory Science. Penno completed a refractive and research fellowship at the Gimbel Eye Centre, training under Dr. Howard Gimbel, a world-renowned pioneer in refractive and cataract surgery. She has coauthored numerous articles and chapters along with two surgical textbooks. Her first book, LASIK Complications, was translated into Spanish and Japanese. She has practiced and is board certified in the U.S. and Canada. Penno created her own clinic, Western Laser Eye Associates (www.westernlasereye.com) in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. She lives with her husband, daughters, dogs, cat, and a variety of wildlife on an acreage just outside Calgary.
