The performance was recorded one month after the Charlie Watts Orchestra’s premiere at Ronnie Scott’s Jazz Club in London in 1986, a historic event that garnered widespread attention from both the press and fellow musicians. This live album features a big band ensemble made up of some of the finest British jazz talent, performing a blend of swing-era classics and jazz standards.
The album features energetic renditions of songs like “Stomping At The Savoy,” “Lester Leaps In,” and “Robbins Nest,” showcasing the band’s virtuosic skill and their deep understanding of the swing era’s rich history. Charlie is joined by standout musicians like trumpeters Dave DeFries, Ted Emmett, and Colin Smith; saxophonists including Ray Premru and Alan Skidmore; bassist Dave Green; organist Sir Charles Thompson; and vibraphonists Bill LeSage and Jim Lawless.
