Mama Peggy’s approach to cooking could be summed up by something she used to say. “It’s the simplest thing in the world.” This cookbook captures those simple, old-fashioned Southern recipes that were Mama Peggy’s signature during her many years cooking at Peggy’s Restaurant. This isn’t food that’s meant to fancy. These are just simple, delicious recipes.
While there are many of the Peggy’s Restaurant recipes in the book, the cookbook includes many of Mama Peggy’s favorite recipes, as well as some of the humorous stories she used to post to her web site before her death. A woman of mischievous wit and firm Christian faith, this cookbook provides a wonderful insight into the depth of her character, and the reasons why she is still so sorely missed.
Author Biography
Peggy Chaney was born to a Baptist preacher during the Great Depression, and was one of eleven children who lived out their lives in and around Kings Mountain, North Carolina. Around Kings Mountain, Peggy is best remember for her 20+ years of cooking at the restaurant which bore her name (though Peggy’s Restaurant was owned and operated by her sister, Loretta Chaney). Peggy was a fixture in her community all throughout her life, and is sorely missed. Wicasta Lovelace was born in Kings Mountain, North Carolina, and grew up in the family restaurant which was run by his mother, Peggy Chaney, and his aunt, Loretta. He proved himself a dreamer at an early age, failing the 9th grade the first time through because he spent all of his free time writing a novel in class rather doing his classwork. He studied audio recording at Saint Petersburg College, in Saint Petersburg, Florida, and spends his time writing his Asrian series of novels, recording music with his band, and producing and engineering recordings for other artists.
