Inspired by a box of letters written to her friend Zoe’s mother – Geraldine Flower, Emiliana Torrini embarks on a deeply personal journey with her latest album, MISS FLOWER. Delving into a wealth of letters and photographs; Emiliana, Zoe and longtime collaborator and producer Simon Byrt, uncovered a treasure trove of stories revealing a feminist pioneer who defied societal norms. Geraldine’s extraordinary experiences, discovered via these letters, are used as a starting inspiration for each song. They found out that she turned down at least nine marriage proposals, travelled to amazing places, there were references to espionage and secret meetings, plus details of some of the loving and passionate relationships she experienced at various points in her life. We hear via the letters of her moving from her hometown of Sydney to London in the late 60’s and all the excitement that she found living in London at that time. All these stories sparked Torrini’s creative vision, breathing life into the captivating narrative woven throughout MISS FLOWER. This album not only pays homage to Geraldine Flower’s legacy but also explores widerthemes of freedom, adventure, love, and self-discovery, inviting listeners to join Torrini on a poignant exploration of identity and empowerment.
