Award-winning songwriter Geneva AM is thrilled to release her debut album, Pikipiki (to climb, ascend), featuring original songs as well as reimagined classic waiata she grew up with.
Geneva AM is the moniker of Geneva Alexander-Marsters, the former lead singer of the electropop band SoccerPractise. The Waiheke Island-based beatmaker, producer, singer-songwriter and vocalist has been crafting a unique blend of dynamic electronic music with Te Reo Māori influences since setting out solo in 2023.
Her bilingual approach to songwriting has been prominent throughout her musical career, most notably with SoccerPractise and on ‘IHO’ as part of the Waiata Anthems project. Lyrically, her songs often explore themes of cultural identity, indigenous dispossession and perseverance, sometimes drawing from her own experiences and sometimes reinterpreting traditional songs.
With Pikipiki, Geneva intends to uplift the wairua and encourage the listener to overcome life’s obstacles and seek positive change. A seasoned live performer, Geneva AM has recently performed alongside Anna Coddington and Ladi6.
