Teachers Behaving Badly?

This book considers some of the issues connected with teachers and sexuality, and the dilemmas these pose for school leaders. It is not in the main about paedophiles nor is it about inappropriate sexual behaviour, such as sexual bullying, manifested between pupils. Much has already been written on both these areas and there is plenty of advice available for school leaders who have to deal with incidents arising from these issues. Teachers Behaving Badly? is concerned about sexual behaviour that may occur between adults working in and connected to the school, and teacher/older pupil relations, initiated by both parties. Leaders faced with trying to sort out these issues find that they are not always clear-cut; often there are no easy resolutions; and the consequences may be potentially explosive – for the individuals concerned, for the school and for the community. Real life scenarios and case studies are included throughout the book. Helpful personnel and legal issues for school leaders are addressed, and advice offered on preparing for critical incidents and continuing professional development.

Kate Myers is Emeritus Professor at the University of Keele. She is a Senior Associate of The Leadership for Learning Network at the University of Cambridge and an adviser for The London Challenge.
