TeenageJuvenileDelinquentRocknRollHorrorBeachParty! is the new album by Auckland based neo-rockabilly outfit Boom! Boom! Deluxe, released on Austria’s Plan 9 Trash Records, and one that will be lovingly embraced by NZ’s growing legion of rockabilly fans.
The album serves up a mix of incredibly catchy original songs, authentic high energy ‘50s rock ‘n’ roll seasoned with a selection of surprising modern classics, all given the Boom! Boom! Deluxe treatment.
The record does a great job of conveying the energy of the band – delivering a rollicking sound dripping with double bass, electric guitar reverb, harmonica and a thumping up-tempo drum beat.
Over the past few years there has been a huge growth in the popularity of all things vintage – classic cars, pinup fashion and of course rock ‘n’ roll music.
At the forefront of this new movement are Boom! Boom! Deluxe who have been touring constantly over the past few years and have headlined virtually every major event including Beach Hop, Kaikoura Hop, Muscle Car Madness, Rockabilly Show & Shine and The Very Vintage Day Out.

13 tracks of 1950s influenced rock ‘n’ roll and rockabilly – perfect for the Saturday night cruise to the diner.
To top it off, the final cracker track on the album – Against the Law – features D.D. Deluxe dueting with special guest Glen Matlock of The Sex Pistols.
_“From the opening track of their new album Boom! Boom! Deluxe impart a fun, retro sound which made me want to don a swing dress, apply red lippy and go in search of a vinyl-playing jukebox (and a dance partner).
The album is fast-paced, energetic and rarely let’s up. It is a confident output and an enjoyable listen, and it really feels like the band are having a good time too.
What the album also shows off is what four musicians invested in 1950/60’s rock n roll and rockabilly can bring to the genre in a contemporary setting. It’s not a new sound, but it is nostalgic, well-produced and I’m a particular fan of the double bass which is interwoven throughout the album tracks.
The slightly seductive track Slap My Bottom made me smile and then laugh, the breathy rendition is reminiscent of starlets of the 1950’s and yet it had a cheeky tone to it. It doesn’t take itself too seriously, I can imagine it will be a good track to hear live.
The finger clicking and opening notes of Everybody Rolls typifies the album, it’s infectious listening and catching the band on their upcoming tour will be a great chance to enjoy the entertainment and performance factor that this band bring to their music.
