There's a Stranger in My Room

“There’s a stranger in my room.” That is not the kind of thing one wants to hear in the middle of the night and yet it is the sort of thing that keeps us jumping out of bed, bolting across the hall, up the stairs and into my mother’s room to check what is going on. Perhaps the reader will commiserate. I don’t know, but I am writing it all down. If it helps others…great! Look, I think some of the stuff that happens is funny, some is sad, and some is just plain crazy; but then, isn’t that what it is like caring for a 98 year old with Alzheimer’s? Far from a ‘yawn-fest’, some of the stories are really entertaining. (Okay, I’ll admit that I am somewhat biased, but really people…it’s worth a read.) Oh, and welcome to my world.

Author Biography

Jessica Bryan is also author of I Am Not a Village, where you first meet Pauline, a feisty 96 year old who is suffering from Alzheimer’s while living with her daughter and son-in-law. A year later, Jessica wrote Fine Tuning My Life which delved more deeply into the author’s coping mechanisms and self-discovery. This third book continues where the other two left off and is an excellent book for those facing similar challenges, or trying to understand what someone else is facing. Like the previous books, it is humorous, sad, sometimes raw and always honest. The author doesn’t sugar-coat her very real experiences but does so in a charming and compelling account that makes the reader want to turn the page for more. Many have said reading Jessica’s writing is like having their own personal therapy session.
