After years of dreaming and fantasizing, an African American finally went to Europe, where she spent 23 years of magical travels and unexpected encounters. She discovered the thrill of being a rarity in a country where the beautiful blond is the norm. Barely noticed in the States, in Europe she received more attention than wanted. This book of memoirs recounts the author’s experiences of living and traveling in Europe. During her years in Europe, she traveled extensively-from North Africa to Siberia. She met an assortment of people; some pleasant, some strange, all unforgettable. She found differences in people to be only superficial. Europeans, Americans, Asians-all to some degree share the traits of kindness, distrust of the unknown, prejudice, love, desire, curiosity, and friendship. In this book the reader will meet some people exemplifying these traits.

Author Biography

The author was born in Memphis, Tennessee, where she received a Bachelor of Arts in English from LeMoyne-Owen College. After teaching in the Memphis and the Chicago public schools, in 1972 she became part of the Department of Defense Dependent Schools System, Germany branch, where she taught English until 1995.While in Europe she attended both American and foreign universities and received a Master of Arts in British Literature from Fairleigh Dickinson’s Wroxton, England campus. Retired from public schools, she is currently an adjunct professor of English at New Jersey’s Camden County College.
