Hobbies

OK Deadzone fans its time to look how to paint the larger Plague Models, including the massive Stage 1A.

In our last Deadzone blog I took you through my new method for painting the Plague Stage 3s in a “Hulk” style green scheme. For the larger Plague models the method is mostly the same, however you'll need to spend a little more time on the bone areas as they are more pronounced.

Deadzone: Painting Enforcers Part 1

Hobbies

Our Computers Gorilla is a big fan of the Deadzone models so I've been working painting up his Enforcers force in preparation for some epic lunch-time grudge matches in the coming months.

After some discussion we've decided on a colour scheme quite similar to the one used by Mantic Game and which is further inspired by the Cerberus armour from Mass Effect. The main armour colour will be a light grey, with some metallic black armour plates and a black internal skin. Then some yellow unit markings with also be added and also I'll be adding some Mass Effect style gun markings, such as the famous N7.

Dust Tactics: Finishing the Ludwig & Desert Basing

Hobbies

It's time for the final installment of the Dust Tactics Ludwig Painting series and its time to finish off the small details and the desert basing.

Step 9: Painting the hydraulics
The legs of the Axis walkers have some great hydraulic piston detail and I wanted them to be eye-catching and contrast with the predominantly camouflaged paint scheme. So I've gone for a bare-metal finish and added some oil and grease effects to them.

Firstly I painted the couplings in Vallejo Gunmetal and the piston rods themselves with Steel, to give a polished metal finish. Then to add some definition I gave them a wash of Citadel Nuln Oil, removing any excess when it pooled in the recesses.

I then added some AK Interactive Fresh Engine Oil by itself and alson in a mixture with black weathering pigment to give an opily, greased look.

Flames of War Fridays: Soviet T-34 Tankovy Company

Hobbies

For this week's Flames of War Friday project we asked our fans over on the Mighty Ape Hobbies Facebook Page to decide which armoured unit they'd like to see; either the Soviet T-34 Tankovy ; or the Japanese Light Sensha Platoon and the ubiquitous T-34 was the winner. So lets take a closer look at the plastic T-34 Tankovy boxed set.

The T-34 was the most produced tank of World War II and is the mainstay of Soviet armoured forces for both the mid-war and late war period and this set enables you to field 2 of the most common variants: the T-34/76 obr 1943 and the T-34/85 obr 1944. The kit includes:

  • 5× plastic T-34 hulls
  • 5× plastic T-34/76 turrets
  • 5× plastic T-34/85 turrets
  • 5× metal Tank Commanders
  • 15× Rare Earth magnets
  • 1× Soviet decal sheet

With both turret versions and magnets included you can magnetise all 5 tanks so that you can simply swap turrets to change between the T-34/76 and T-34/85. This gives a great amount of flexibility when choosing writing your lists and means you can use these tanks for both the mid-war and late war periods. Combine that with the similar versatility of the Tank Killer Company and you'll see that this is a fantastic perk for Soviet players.
