"The grandaddy of FPS, cant compete anymore"
3 stars"
Purchased on Mighty Ape

Wolfenstein – the very name means history in FPS gaming. Wolf 3D was considered the game that pioneered 3D shooters and made them popular. Return to castle Wolfenstein was one of the most popular shooters of all time. And now with the 3rd installment ( despite its rather, bland name ) I'm left wondering, whats so special?

“Wolfenstein” Doesn't exactly do its name justice, nothing about it is outstanding in anyway, and the multiplayer is as bland as blank paper. However, it is still a rather competent shooter, with some fun to be had. The mixture of occult themes with standard shooting mechanics make for some intense shooting moments, however nothing mind blowing. The shooting itself is fine, and the set-pieces are beautiful. However i wouldn't recommend this game to anyone. Unless they have finished every shooting game from 2008 onwards and chewing their fingers off for more. Wolfenstein, in plain words – is rather unexciting by todays standards

"Good campaign"
4 stars"
Purchased on Mighty Ape

Very good campaign if you are into single player games, although if you are looking for a good multiplayer game this really isn't it. The single player throws surprises at you. It's a great war game with monsters as well, what more could you want? I'd give the overall game a 7 out of 10 but it's definately worth a buy.

"A let down on past experiances and a new take...."
3 stars"

As anyone would think, I had high hopes for Wolfenstein. ID usually delivers the goods in conjunction with Ravensoft.

I'm not going for a long winded review but rather more suited to this – a shocker of a disappointment for me.

I think I played Return to Castle Wolfenstein several times through, then there was the multiplayer aspect. I had expectations of something similar but with a improved visual experience and some frantic running ducking and dodging.

While there is some of his to be had without giving too much away, the “god mode” crystals that you collect make all that fun feel so much LESS fulfilling.

You are able throughout the progress of the game, collect various crystals that grant abilities only to what I can equate to as cheats in previous games, and to that they are nothing original either.

The take of Wolfy has gone towards a hybrid ‘follow me but get lost somewhere’ RPG elements. Yes I do feel very strongly about this, I'm sure that the developers thought hard and long about this choice but it's so plainly obvious that his game does not know what it wants to be.

Full RPG FPS I probably could have swallowed with the Wolfenstein experience it could have been interesting. Or perhaps minus the RPG elements of upgrading guns and meeting people and made a full on superhero actions game via the use of the special crystals you find......

No.., What I was hoping for and was rather off the mark was a basic FPS bringing me back to the Return to castle Wolfenstein days so fondly missed.

The game feels disjointed side missions not having any real point and in my opinion the story does not let you become involved in the game until about 3/4 of the way through. From that point I will same the game can become fun as you have upgraded your weapons, have all four crystal components and hey if you die, select two of the powers that the crystal gives you and your sure to pass that section.

I played the game first time on the third hardest setting and found it to be not much of a struggle.

Major issues: Bad clipping. Story does not tie in together well. Game does not know what it wants to be Game is obviously developed for consoles in mind. Lack of Nazi special monsters.

Good points: Game can look good with shader effects working. Some fun moments to be had with the crystal powers. Never run out of ammo. Old Wolfenstein characters make a return to the game. Some familiarities to remind you of the games heritage. Fun times in the hospital meeting new friends.

My closing comments are my opinion only: Sorry guys this is a big fizzle for me, put bluntly. Quake 4 did more justice for its name than this will do for the Wolfenstein heritage.
