The 7th International Photo-Triennial in Esslingen (2007) tackled the exciting question of the relationship between Identity and Home. The artists participating included Richard Billingham, Katharina Bosse, Jean le Gac, Jan Koster and Cecile Wick, whose photographs highlighted the possibilities for, or impossibility of, finding an identity. Where is home? What fosters identity in our modern, globalised world? These questions play a key role in Central and South American countries, which is why the Photo-Triennial exhibited works by Teresa Margolles and Santiago Sierra from Mexico, as well as Jo Ractliffe and Andrew Tshabangu from South Africa, in the discussion on a sense of belonging or of foreignness.
