Andrew is at his very best when he is at home. He knows what appeals and never fails to deliver.

Let's face it, he has his formula down pat. He and the JSO plus Platin Tenors and three regular divas, are all fabulous musicians. They are also show people – they know how to entertain and look like they enjoy what they do. Andre mixes it up with various guest artists and various different tunes, particularly in the first part of the concert – that is the bit before the Radetsky March heralds the encores. Andre doesn't mind repeating an old joke when it has worked before – in this case the rampaging bull chasing a red-clad lady up the aisle during the Toreador song from Bizet's Carmen. Once you get to Radetsky March, you are into encores and everyone – audience and orchestra alike – can pretty much tell you word for word what is said, what gestures are made by Andre, tomfoolery among the orchestra, who does what party piece, let the conga line begin. But that's okay, because if you are an Andre fan, then it's tradition. There is enough in this umpteenth annual Maastricht concert that's different to keep you on the edge of your seat and enough that is familiar to make you smile in recognition. Andre is a Mortein man…when you're on a good thing, stick to it. Or in his case, keep polishing it to perfection – this is the latest of Andre's five star DVDs.
