Cold Chisel – Last Stand presented on DVD.
The Last Stand was the biggest tour by an Australian band ever undertaken to that time. Some 100,000 fans saw Cold Chisel in shows that were blistering marathons of powerful rock & roll. The last two nights of the tour, which took place at the Sydney Entertainment Centre, were filmed. They capture the raw intensity of Cold Chisel going out with a bang. If this was to be a wake there would be no sentimental bullshit. You can hear Jimmy’s voice pushed to the limit on “Saturday Night” and when they launch into “Wild Thing” he charges into the audience and is engulfed in the love of thousands. Drenched in sweat, he makes it back to the stage and guns the band up a notch – Moss is playing his guitar like a mad man and all the love and the hate, the good times, the frustration is all crammed into this last moment together, this final full tilt boogie statement. The Last Stand was initially a made for a cinema release and the concert footage is augmented by interviews with the band and friends. The next best thing to being there.
