While not as difficult as other games in the series, it still prevents a fun challenge for people who like games that don't hold their hand.
Having played all the series! I found this one to be totally unbalanced, boring and darn right stupid at times. The best in the series which I am STILL playing I year later, here and there,is Etrian O- 2,The Fafnir knight,NOW that one has the balance, just right, better characters, more reason for what the characters are doing and so forth, get that one,NOT THIS ONE. Millenium Girl is also ok,but a one play through game only. The DLC in EO 2 is definitely worth the money too, unlike the others. This is my opinion only, take it as you will. We play consoles, all of them etc etc and we are not just 3DS players.
The EO series has always been a standout one. While a little inaccessible due to brutal difficulty EOIV ramps up a little slower, and casual mode despite it's name, is still hard, just a little less punishing, makes this a perfect entry point for new comers.
For old fans, this is the same kind of game, just polished and refined as you'd expect, but it isn't a revolution. If you read reviews of EO, any of them and go “that sounds good” you really will love the hundred or so hours you'll commit to this.
For centuries, the tree Yggdrasil has been a constant presence in the lives of the people of Tharsis. It looms on the horizon, visible from everywhere in the city. But its roots are in a far-off land where no one has ventured until the Outland Count of Tharsis sponsors an Explorers Guild to reach Yggdrasil and discover its secrets. You are the latest explorer arriving in Tharsis to seek your fame and fortune. Board your skyship and set out into the clouds in search of treasure, glory, and the answer to Tharsis' oldest mystery.
Etrian Odyssey IV brings enhanced graphics and 3D effects, more immersive 3D dungeons, and upgradeable skyships that let players travel and battle among the clouds. Players can utilize 3DS bottom touch screen to chart out a path and create maps to aid in the team's survival of the dangers that await. The game delivers deep character creation and party customization options, and an all-new casual play option will provide greater accessibility for novice players. Additionally, guild card and character trading functionality will be available through the 3DS StreetPass feature.
