Only just started watching series 1, starring a whos who of UK drama. Love Dawn French as wacky Mrs. Arliss.
Much like Laura Ingalls Wilder's books, not the bland TV series. This series is based on the experiences that Flora recorded as she left her village and made a new life as a teenage Victorian in a small-town post office. She noted down lots of interesting and detailed events. As well she provides some excellent character sketches. This is family friendly viewing.
I was not disappointed by this charming series. Loving the English countryside as I do makes watching this beautifully filmed, we'll acted drama a real treat.
Lark Rise To Candleford, adapted from Flora Thompson's memoir of her Oxfordshire childhood, presents a love letter to a vanished corner of rural England and a heart warming drama series teeming with wit, wisdom and romance.
Set in Oxfordshire countryside at the end of the 19th Century, his rich, funny and emotional series follows the daily lives of farm workers, craftsmen and gentry in two contrasting communities, Lark Rise, the small hamlet, gently holding on to the past and Candleford, the neighbouring market town, bustling into the future.
When the young Laura Timmins leaves Lark Rise for a job at the local post office in Candleford it feels as if she is departing to a different country. Her new life under the wing of the independent and effervescent post mistress, Dorcas Lane, is eye opening and exciting, but as Laura witnesses the scandals, feuds and struggles of the villagers, and townsfolk, she realises that she too has to face the future. Having turned her back on her childhood hamlet, she must find her own path to womanhood.
