I comtemplated not even bothering to see this movie, due to a large number of decidedly negative reviews, but when it came to town, I just couldn't resist going to see it. As with all POTC movies, it's impossible for this to be bad. Although it's more of a spin-off from the original trilogy than a sequel to At Worlds End, On Stranger Tides is filled with the same dry humour and enlessly entertaining banter that helped make the first 3 movies so good.
It's definitely not perfect, the plot is a bit weak, and at times seems like the writers only came up with it for an excuse to make another Pirates movie. Also, the whole POTC concept doesn't really feel right in London, nor with Blackbeard for that matter. On Stranger Tides is also just lacking that special something; that special something that makes you want to watch POTC 1, 2 & 3 over and over again; that special something that evidently made its departure with original trilogy director Gore Verbinski after At Worlds End.
Despite all this, the unmistakable POTC fun and excitement, and of course the fantastic Jack Sparrow (Johnny Depp )and Hector Barbossa (Geoffrey Rush) result in a film that is entertaining, and great fun to watch. And, of course, being in 3D makes it that much more great to watch. A must-have for any POTC fan, and a must-have addition to anyones 3D Blu-ray collection.
