The hero, Shelby, finds herself widowed and left with a small daughter to raise. She has also been left enormous debts by her husband, and she quickly comes to realise that almost everything about her marriage was a lie, that her husband wasn't the man she believed him to be, and that she is surrounded by deception. Even her engagement ring is a fake. She goes home to her warm, loving family in Tennessee, but trouble follows her, and her friends, family and her lover become involved in the web of trickery and fraud created by her husband. Readers may think they can guess the ending, but the journey is totally gripping.
