Based on Richard Flanagan's acclaimed novel, THE SOUND OF ONE HAND CLAPPING is about the dark underbelly of Australia and the difficulty of adjusting to life in a new country.
Tasmania, 1954: Slovenian migrant Melita abandons her husband and young daughter, Sonja. Sonja?s distraught father (Jacek Koman) perseveres with his new life in a new country, but he is soon crushed into an alcoholic despair, and Sonja herself abandons him at the earliest opportunity. Now, nearly 20 years later, a single and pregnant Sonja (Kerry Fox) returns to Tasmania?s highlands and to her father in an attempt to put the pieces of her life back together.
Heart-breaking and poignant, THE SOUND OF ONE HAND CLAPPING is a challenging yet rewarding glimpse into the lives of ordinary immigrants, and the extraordinarily difficult circumstances with which they are forced to cope.
