Description

Excerpt from A Faithful Narrative of the Surprising Work of God in the Conversion of Many Hundred Souls in Northampton, and the Neighbouring Towns and Villages of New-Hampshire, in New-England: In a Letter to the Rev. Dr. Colman, at That Time Pastor of Brattle Street Church, Boston; With Prefaces, by the Re. Dr. Watts and Dr. Guyse of London, and by the Boston Ministers; Revised From the Boston Edition of 1738 Although we have no doubt that multitudes of sinners in the past and during the present year have become the subjects of re newing grace, yet we know there may be danger of mistake in this matter, from mere animal excitement, from visionary ideas, and from sympathy. There may be danger too, from the publish ing of false tests of character from the pulpit, and from an indis orcet haste in the profession of religion. It is therefore hoped, that the publication of this Narrative will have a valuable ten deney not only in showing what true grace is, but' in awakening many, who are strangers to its nature and influence, tba con sideration of their eternal interest. It is gratifying to observe the honourable names of Ministers in Boston, who a century since believed in and encouraged Revivals of Religion, as well as the names of those other Ministers in the then county of Hampshire, who cordially attested to this work of the Spirit of God.
