"Insightful, informative and compelling book about sugar"
5 stars"
Purchased on Mighty Ape

Absolutely loved this book. Told through Amanda’s journey to reduce sugar. Highly recommend it for anyone wanting to cut down on sugar. Teaches how to read food labels specifically for sugar and how to calculate sugar in grams and teaspoons. The recipes provided in the book are great and very easy to cook. Just note the recipes show Australian ingredients but there’s a chart with NZ alternatives in the back. There’s also a Facebook support group that you can join and get further inspiration.

I was very interested in getting this book as I had seen the author on a television interview. However I felt the book could have had more description of her experiences and hints – dont get me wrong the education of reading labels etc is helpful but did not particular enjoy reading this book.

Straight to point methods for losing weight. In no more than 3 months I lost 11kg. Recently I put back on 4kg as I slipped back into old habits. Admittedly, sweetened alcohol tripped me up as cravings for sugar quickly returned. My goal is to manage a lifestyle where I follow, daily, what I consume and how this relates to weight loss or weight gain. The book provides step by step chapters for doing just this. It even encourages abstinence from alcohol, which I now follow. There are recipes included that are flavoursome yet diverse. All round, page by page, information and advice are presented to put you in full control of your diet and health. Exercise is not even required for substantial weight loss, I've learnt. This is a godsend in that the formula of counting calories and burning them off is a tough, ongoing commitment most people find discouraging or unattainable. I'm one of them. Start with this book for effective weight loss. It will improve your appearance and your health in weeks. You will most likely even live longer.

Description

THAT BESTSELLING NEW ZEALAND SUGAR BOOK; COMPLETELY REVISED & UPDATED

How many teaspoons of sugar do you consume a day? Amanda Tiffen went from 30 teaspoons of sugar per day (unknowingly) to 6 teaspoons of sugar per day and in doing so lost an astonishing 20 KG. After years of dieting and fighting to control her weight, Amanda easily went from a size 16 to a size 8 in 9 months.

A LIFE LESS SUGAR is the inspiring story of how an ordinary and busy working mum used information from a documentary she had seen on TV and turned that information into her reality. She lost 20KG by reducing her sugar consumption, teaspoon by teaspoon, and then wrote a runaway bestseller about how she did it.

Enlisting the help of good friend Leigh Brown who is an amazing cook (something Amanda is not!) to create some low sugar, low carbohydrate delicious dishes. The recipes are easy to follow with nothing complicated.

Part memoir, part diet and recipe book A LIFE LESS SUGAR will help you to reduce the high sugar content in some of the most common foods that Amanda found in her (and maybe your) pantry.

Amanda Tiffen – Biography:

I am not a qualified nutritionist or dietician, I am a fulltime working mum and wife in my 40's. I live in Christchurch, New Zealand with my husband Robbie and two children. I am a normal person who discovered something amazing and wrote a book about it to share my journey. I've struggled with weigh loss and maintaining my weight loss for most of my life. Finally I have it under control. Weight for me has always been a big part of my life, always there at functions, family events and life's highs and lows. I've tried to never let it consume me but weight has always been my shadow lurking in front of me, now that shadow is behind me, still there but out of sight. Weight will always be a part of my life, but now (for me) its in a positive light, I am a much happier and healthier me.
