There are many, I doubt not, who, from their intimate acquaintance with the political affairs of our country for the last fifty years - from their personal knowledge of the worth and excellence of our departed President, in the domestic, social, and public walks of life, as well as his undaunted heroism on the field of battle, in the day of our national struggle against oppression, when men's souls were tried, are thus better qualified than I am, to render to his memory that tribute of praise which he, as an instrument in the hand of God, deserves from us.
