No histological changes were found in the atrophied gyri; it was simply a quantitative change from disuse This case is in striking contrast with the almost negative results of autopsies after Old amputations, yet the cases are different, as in the latter condition volitional impulses (unconsciously, perhaps) would still be able to flow out from the motor cortex to the anterior cornua of the whole cord.
