Considering the expanse and epicness of the previous Gothic games, this one's a massive letdown. It's gone from an open world with a lot of RPG elements that made the series interesting, to a very railroaded, single-playthrough game with terrible combat, lackluster graphics (with a lot of glitches) some very scary-looking NPC models (scary in a badly-thought-out way), limited monster types repeated throughout the game with different names, and a severe lack of fun, with a predictable storyline. If you liked the previous Gothic games, this will probably make you very depressed, and a lot of people (myself included) think it's not worthy of the Gothic title.

There are a lack of monsters in game, a predictable storyline. The graphics are good, its a fun game to play if you have extra time.
One of the worst games in a long time. Amazingly boring. It seems like the star of Gothic is dieing. I am melancholic when I look back at how great the first one was compared to this :( A game for rainy days and when one has nothing else to do…
I don't know why all the bad reviews,a long game, a very good price, quite interesting everybody is saying bad frame rate which i thought was'nt that bad and voice acting who listens to all that anyway.
Great game but graphics frame rate is not good.
Not a great game but who could complain at that sale price. Would have liked to have seen more choice of armour and weapons. Graphics quite nice. Think Gothic 3 was better but it has been more than adequate as a time filler to take my mind off the days dragging on until Skyrim's release. Roll on 11/11/11!
Arcania has a creative leveling system which helps to develop your character into a real individual, the story is great and the graphics are fairly good too. But as a previous review has said, download the demo to see if it is your style of gameplay. Before purchase also check THOROUGHLY to see if your computer reaches the requirements, minimum of the requirements does meet a fair amount of latency in game. Apart from that, it really is wonderful and so easy to pass time on.
This game was good value for money
If you liked the other Gothic Games, you'll like this one. It is not very long and is quite uni-directional, but still a good fun game – definitely worth the sale price
Great game. Good story, good graphics. Both demanding of time and system :(
But pro's number in more and in higher ranks then con's
This game is everything you would expect it to be. It features some quite nice graphics, although it is let down a bit due to technical issues on the engine itself, the gameplay is the same as any another rpg of the era.
After playing some of the previous Gothic games, I was excited to try out Arcania, even after hearing mixed reviews about it. However, after a dodgy install, I found that even though my computer meets and/or exceeds the reccomended requirements for this game, it still struggled to run in on its lowest graphic settings. It was laggy and glitchy and just dissapointing. The parts of the game that I did see, looked average. The combat was ok, there where some breathtaking scenes and graphics (had I been able to set the graphic settings to high :/) and it looked like an all-right game, even though at first it was marketed as ‘open-world’ it is NOT open world. It can be compared to Dragon Age, where you open up different locations but often cannot return to them. Oh well, if you have some spare money and decent spec computer, then give it a go! It wont make you go WOW or get you playing it all night, but maybe it will bridge the gap between other games you want to play.
Arcania: gothic 4 is a fun entertaining game to play with loads of items to find and craft to satisfy anyone. The combat system is simple so easy. One thing I didnt like about the combat system is the arrows dont curve like they did in the previous game which as a ranger I didnt like so much. The game didnt feel very long and seemed to be set to a path instead of linear. Some glitches were present like buildings going black, otherwise this is a great game and a must by for RPG players.
What can I say – disappointed in general. The game is nice visually and thats about it. Crafting system really lacks, how nice would it be to have the ability to craft weapons out of gold, diamonds, rubies etc – as in a gold or diamond blade with other precious gems set in the handles, the kind of weapons people spend hours making for other rpg's with mod tools, about time we had a quality system in one of these games. Very linear game play and hard luck if you get to the end without completing all missions, only way to get back is to turn on no clip.
Voice acting is pathetic. Creatures are the same as the previous game......AI are dumb
This is the worst of the series limited customization and character development and a boring storyline. Is a bit one sided and not as open world as the other games 1 2 and 3 I completed this game in less than a day, it played ok on my 4 core amd 3200 mhz with 8 gig ram and ati 4890 2 gig video card windows 7 64 bit, but it will work better on nvidia as the game is designed around this card. You would be better off playing gothic one a second time than wasting money on this game There are much better games coming all the time buy them I`ve pre-ordered heaps.
Not a bad game, but not like the previous Gothic series. Very limited replay appeal.
Unlike the previous gothic games arcania was just a bland rpg with limited customization, character development and a bland storyline. The combat system was also very basic. Gothic fans will probably find the game somewhat enjoyable but it isn't worth the money.
