I might say that assorted impressions drawn from periods so diverse as the nineteenth century (now recognised as mistaken) and the twentieth (generally acknowledged to be right) would be too miscellaneous to appear within the same covers. Or, again, I could plead that what was true in 1893 is still true in 1909, because Oxford only appears to alter, and in reality remains very much the same: 'plus cela change, plus c'est la meme chose.'
