"Think 'Saving Private Ryan', but bigger and better!"
5 stars"

This incredibly well-made mini-series from Tom Hanks and Steven Spielberg is a must watch for all. Following Easy Company of the 506th Parachute Infantry Regiment of the 101st Airborne, this series follows the men of E Company from their parachute training at Camp Toccoa, through to their assault on Normandy on D-Day, continuing to their final assault on Germany itself, where they capture Hitler's historical hideaway, the ‘Eagle's Nest’. Even though each episode has a different director (and in some cases writer), the story and feel of the series flows amazingly well, and shows off the talents of the filmmakers themselves. In addition to the directors, each episode is also seen from a different man's perspective, while still keeping the entire company itself as main characters. The two characters that the series follows more closely than others are the amazing Lt. Richard Winters (played brilliantly by Damian Lewis), the man who saw Easy through the entire war -rising in rank to Major, and soon commanding the entire battalion, and his best friend and intelligence officer Lt. Lewis Nixon (played equally well by Ron Livingston). With brilliant acting on all fronts, you would never have guessed which actor was really British (and half of them are) with their superb American accents, and with incredible special-effects and makeup, some scenes are definitely not for the squeamish. Overall, this series is definitely one of my favourites. Powerful, dramatic, great action, equally great humour, and most importantly based on amazingly unlikely true events, this series gives great insight to anyone wanting to learn a little more about American military history, Paratroopers, the European campaign and WWII in general, or those just wanting an action film with a bit more substance to watch. I've seen this whole miniseries several times, and the hilarious and emotional bits still get me every time.
