Gave this to my Dad for fathers day. Both Dad & Mum have thoroughly enjoyed the DVD. Said it had them on the edge of their seat many times

I liked the plain, documentary-type treatment of a most notable event in our history. I remember the event itself, and I value the chance of seeing a very convincing enactment.
I have been addicted to the challenge of Everest , so this movie highlighted my thoughts of it all. Reminiscences of a past era.
It took a sizable team to finally conquer Mt Everest … And you are there!
To be honest I only bought this because it was in the Mighty Ape $5 bargain bin. I watched it as a double feature after Everest and it adds a lot of context to the Everest story, especially with regard to the lay of the land and the hazards on Everest. Even though it is meant to be a documentary, (and I don't really go for those) and even knowing the outcome, this was as gripping as any movie. I can highly recommend it to anyone with an interest in Kiwi adventurers, mountaineering or epic achievements.
This documentary was very well done making excellent use of historical 1953 footage and blending with “reconstructions” to re-create this important piece of NZ history. The actor actually looks very similar to the young Sir Ed.
