The journey continues with Desiree in England. About to be hung by a lynch mob, Roger D'Savigginon rescues her in time, taking her with him to England to live with him. Desiree is then confronted with her two worst rivals: her cousin Lorraine and Madame Renauld. While living with the D'Savigginons she meets Professor Caleb Spencer, tutor to the children. She finds herself attracted to him, sending D'Savigginon into a jealous rage. Both men vie for her attention but again, only the marquis can satisfy her lusts and desires. She soon faces a trial for the murder of her Cousin Lorraine. Once again Roger comes to her rescue and saves her from Madame Renauld when she tries to poison Desiree. The story ends on a happy note when she finally comes face-to-face with the son she thought was still born and marries Roger D'Savigginon.
