Description

Why do people engage in commercial robbery? How do they select their targets? On what basis do they choose a particular time and day? How are robberies prepared beforehand and ultimately executed? How do robbers escape from the crime scene undetected? These choices, techniques and circumstances are the subject of this comparative study of commercial robbery in Denmark and the Netherlands. But a robber's decision-making processes do not end here. Choices concerning involvement, persistence and desistance are analysed as well. The study is based on both quantitative data - national statistics, computerized data files and police records - and qualitative interviews with inmates in both countries. This project was funded by the Danish Social Science Research Council and submitted as a PhD thesis to the Faculty of Law, University of Copenhagen.
