This material enables a new appreciation of De re publica, an influential work in the history of political thought and important for a better understanding of the historical situation at the end of the Roman Republic and of Cicero’s development as a writer and politician.

Author Biography:

Gesine Manuwald is Professor of Latin, University College London. Her many books include Cicero (Understanding Classics, Bloomsbury 2015), Cicero, Agrarian Speeches. Introduction, Text, Translation, and Commentary (Oxford University Press 2018) and Cicero, Post reditum speeches. Introduction, Text, Translation, and Commentary (Oxford University Press 2021).
