Tarif Khalidi is Sir Thomas Adams Professor of Arabic, Cambridge University. Educated at Oxford University and the University of Chicago (PhD), he is the author of 'Islamic Historiography' and editor of 'Land Tenure and Social Transformation in the Middle East'.
