"An ambitious misunderstood masterpiece"
5 stars"
Purchased on Mighty Ape

No review or plot summary will ever be able to capture the sheer scope and scale of this wonderful film. There is nothing else like it and there never will be. It's ambitious, funny, romantic, exciting, moving– everything you want in a film– and it will polarize viewers for years to come – but there is no other film I can think of that simply needs to be seen to be believed. CLOUD ATLAS earns my highest recommendation.

"Multiple stories weaved together"
5 stars"
Purchased on Mighty Ape

Readers of the book will find the structure very different, but I liked it. Sections from the book are cut together linking themes more than order. Good performances by a great cast

"Unexpectedly brilliant if you ignore the hype."
5 stars"
Purchased on Mighty Ape

There are many polar reviews (either 1 or 5 stars) but I have found that they all reduce down to the fact that some of the brilliance in this piece is that there are many interpretations. Use the subtitles as there is an example of language evolution that takes a bit of getting used to. Enjoy each story and then consider the thread that binds them instead of considering the failures of interpretation that give up after first attempt (or 15 minutes of viewing). You may spot familiar faces, but that link may (or may not) be there and growth may not be linear.

"I really enjoyed it"
4 stars"

This movie really seems to polarise people, no grey areas, they either love it or hate it! I'm in the lovers camp. I haven't read the book, and don't wish to, but adored the movie. I didn't find it as confusing as others lead you to believe, some of the speech was hard to understand, but a second viewing will sort that. It was a feast for the eyes, ears and imagination and I'm so glad I watched it, the 3 hours whizzed by. This will be a great addition to my BD library.
